Advanced Cardiac Life Support - Provider

Course Description:

The American Heart Association’s Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Course is totally redesigned to incorporate new science evidence from the 2005 Guidelines for CPR and ECC and a new teaching methodology. Through the ACLS Course, healthcare providers will enhance their skill in the treatment of the adult victim of a cardiac arrest or other cardiopulmonary emergency. The American Heart Association’s ACLS course emphasizes the importance of high-quality CPR and the integration of effective CPR with Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support interventions. It also emphasizes effective team interaction and communication during resuscitation.

Course Length: 16 hours

Intended Audience:

Personnel staffing emergency, intensive care or critical care departments; emergency medical providers such as physicians, nurses, emergency technicians, paramedics, respiratory therapists and other professionals who may respond to a cardiovascular emergency.

Note: The student is REQUIRED to complete the pre-course material prior to attending the course.

Card Type: Course completion

Written/Skills Exam: Required for completion card

16 Category 1 Continuing Education Units will be awarded for all ALS providers by the Virginia Office of EMS and recognized by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians.

Persons who successfully complete the knowledge and skills evaluations in accordance with the curriculum of this American Heart Association course will receive the ACLS Provider course completion card.
