Course Description:

The ACLS Instructor Course provides the knowledge and skills needed to evaluate and teach the first 10 core cases of the ACLS Program. Providers are expected to learn to manage 10 core ACLS cases: a respiratory emergency, four types of cardiac arrest (simple VF/VT, complex VF/VT, PEA and Asystole), four types of pre-arrest emergencies (bradycardia, stable tachycardia, unstable tachycardia and acute coronary syndromes) and stroke.

Course Length: 8 hours

Intended Audience:

Personnel staffing emergency, intensive care or critical care departments; emergency medical providers such as physicians, nurses, emergency technicians, paramedics, respiratory therapists and other professionals who may respond to a cardiovascular emergency.

Student Materials:

  • ECC Handbook, Strongly Recommended
  • ACLS Provider Manual, Required or ACLS Text, Reference

Card Type: Instructor Card will be issued after initial monitoring.

Written/Skills Exam: Required for completion card

  1. A current AHA provider card for the course you wish to teach.
  2. A letter of recommendation to be an instructor from an affiliate/regional or course faculty member.
  3. Letter from a Training Center Coordinator indicating that the TC will accept you as an instructor.
  4. Willingness to teach the scientific and program guidelines of the American Heart Association.
  5. Commitment to teach two courses per year according to AHA guidelines.
